LOS ANGELES—Beducated, a digital platform for adult sex education, is further addressing the sexual disparity that is the Orgasm Gap, as a new study in Oxford Academic’s International Society for Sexual Medicine sheds more light on the topic.
The analysis, highlighted in a recent New York Times article, "The ‘Orgasm Gap’ Isn’t Going Away for Straight Women," reveals that men report regular orgasm rates between 70 percent and 85 percent, while women’s rates remain significantly lower, between 46 percent and 58 percent. Despite decades of awareness, this gap remains unchanged across all ages, underscoring the urgent need for more inclusive sexual education and better communication between partners.
In light of these findings, Beducated is stepping up to provide insights and solutions. The focus on a penetration-centered approach to sex often leaves women’s needs unmet, contributing to the ongoing orgasm disparity. A recent June 2023 Beducated survey reflected the study’s findings: only 46 percent of female respondents reported consistently reaching orgasm during partnered sex, compared to 85 percent of men. Notably, the gap diminishes during masturbation, with 58 percent of women always achieving orgasm compared to 63 percent of men.
Beducated’s recent survey also found that 95 percent of respondents expressed a desire for better communication in the bedroom.
Said Mariah Freya, co-founder of Beducated, "Imagine a world where we’re taught to ask our partner what they enjoy and share what we love in return. Such education would empower individuals to confidently explore and communicate their sexual needs, which could significantly reduce the orgasm gap."
Beducated advocates for a proactive approach to closing the orgasm gap:
• For men: embrace the full spectrum of female pleasure beyond penetration.
• For women: cultivate and practice open sexual communication.
• For everyone: view sex education as a continuous, evolving process.
"Our sex lives are dynamic and evolving. Ongoing education and open dialogue are essential to achieving sexual equality and satisfaction," added Freya, who emphasizes Beducated’s commitment to providing the tools and knowledge necessary to help close the Orgasm Gap and foster more fulfilling sexual experiences for all.
