Woodhull Debuts New 'Fact Checked' Episode for Pride Month

WASHINGTON—The Woodhull Freedom Foundation has released the next installment of its virtual series, Fact Checked by Woodhull, which focuses on its work debunking myths about sexual freedom. This month’s program addresses common misconceptions about the transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) community.

Fact Checked by Woodhull examines common claims about pornography, age verification, sex work, free speech, transgender and gender-nonconformity, and sexual orientation, using peer-reviewed academic research. The articles are short, accessible, and free to all.

Fact Checked has been cited in testimony in several states, on social media, and in periodicals. The next episode of this virtual series will air live online on Tuesday, June 30, at 3:30 p.m. ET. Registration is free, and ASL interpretation will be provided. Expert panelists included:

Ricci Levy, the president and chief executive officer of the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, states, “False narratives are being used to justify discrimination, restrict access to healthcare, limit participation in public life, and undermine fundamental human rights of trans and gender nonconforming people."

"We believe facts matter, especially when people's dignity, freedom, and safety are at stake," adds Levy. "Through 'Fact Checked by Woodhull,' we're confronting some of the most persistent and damaging myths about transgender and gender nonconforming people with facts, research, and lived experience. During Pride Month we must channel the activist roots of Pride to challenge disinformation, defend human rights, and ensure that everyone has the freedom to live authentically and safely.”
