LOS ANGELES—Cherie DeVille takes on age verification laws and anti-porn politicians in a new article at WhereIsTheBuzz.com.
In the story, titled “Cherie DeVille Says Age Verification Laws Don’t Protect Kids, They Just Reward Criminals,” DeVille criticizes the latest wave of legislation aimed at further restricting porn, warning of the dangers these laws pose to the very performers they claim to protect, according to her. “What will likely happen is that this will punish actors and companies who follow the laws,” she wrote. “Anytime you push prohibition, you create a black market. Bad actors will emerge, often based overseas where the West lacks jurisdiction, and these groups will ignore the law.
“You already see this in U.S. states with age verification laws. Pornhub follows the law; XVideos doesn’t. These laws don’t stop minors from viewing porn; they just harm the legal porn world and reward criminals.”
DeVille also defended performers’ rights to free expression, even when sensational “sex challenge” stunts flood social media. “So long as performers follow the law and everyone is safe, I believe they should be allowed to voice their free speech and create their stunts. The First Amendment protects everyone, including those I disagree with.”
The Brazzers contract star also focused on mental health and the disproportionate stigma performers face. “It’s true, there are mentally unwell people in the industry. But there are mentally unhealthy people in all industries,” she wrote.
“Because of the stigma associated with porn, every tragedy becomes symbolic of the entire industry,” she emphasized, underlining how unfairly adult workers are judged compared to other professions.
DeVille added that porn’s impact on culture is continuing to grow. “Porn has already gone mainstream,” she said. “Bonnie Blue is on the cover of the Times of London magazine, the UK’s snootiest publication. Porn is here to stay, whether people like it or not.”
