Michael McGrady is a contributing editor for AVN.com. He is responsible for much of AVN's legal and political coverage. McGrady is widely published with credits in the South China Morning Post, The Jerusalem Post, The Denver Post, The Salt Lake City Weekly, The Salt Lake Tribune, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Filter Magazine, Inside Sources, Boston Herald, The Spectator (UK), and dozens more around the world.
Presently, his work as a journalist and academic researcher focuses on digital rights, civil liberties, freedom of expression, and the public-private intersection of the adult entertainment industry and the federal government. Much of his work currently is published here right on AVN, on Techdirt, and on Inside Sources. McGrady is also the social media manager for the nonprofit Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection.
He is also a critically acclaimed and award-nominated editorialist in the verticals of electronic cigarettes, marijuana legalization, drug harm reduction, and public health ethics. Long having a love affair with boats and the ocean, he is also a newsletter writer for a few trade and maritime newsletters read by business owners and government officials in these particular B2B/trade news verticals.
He is a member of the Free Speech Coalition, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Authors Guild, and the Association of Health Care Journalists. McGrady is studying for his second graduate degree with the intent of becoming a lawyer in the near future. McGrady has an undergraduate degree in political science and theory and a graduate degree in public administration and management.
A transplant from Colorado to Springfield, Missouri, McGrady is also a mainstream newspaper journalist for local outlets covering politics in the community and across the nation.
