LOS ANGELES—Writer and sexologist Suzannah Weiss (also known as Shoshanna Blanca) brings her performance art project “Jesus Christ Pornstar” to audiences across multiple platforms “with a message for people who have been taught that spirituality and sexual freedom cannot coexist,” a representative said.
“’Jesus Christ Pornstar’ blends body art, music, prayer, educational videos and erotic performance to explore the body in relation to divinity, sexuality and gender,” the representative explained.
Its two central video and image series revisit biblical stories from new perspectives: "The Second Cumming" explores "enlightenment, love and forgiveness through a psychedelic reading of Jesus and Mary Magdalene," while "Uncovering Eve" examines "women and womanhood to challenge the idea that the body is cursed," a description reads.
“Hysterical Literature Bible Readings mix self-pleasure with prayer to evoke religious ecstasy; Jesus Lessons combines femdom with sex education; and The Porn Psychic draws upon Weiss’ background as a psychic medium to give predictions for the apocalypse (while topless in her bed, of course),” the description continues.
“I created ‘Jesus Christ Pornstar’ to explore what happens when we stop treating the body as a problem religion needs to solve,” Weiss said. “I want people to feel at home in their faith and in themselves without measuring their purity against someone else’s rules. A spiritual life can make room for curiosity, respect and pleasure.”
Weiss is also a feminist writer and sex educator who has spent a decade examining women’s bodies, pleasure and sexual agency. She is the author of Subjectified: Becoming a Sexual Subject and Eve’s Blessing: Uncovering the Lost Pleasure Behind Female Pain, winner of the 2026 AASECT Book Award for General Audience. Now a PhD student in clinical sexology, she is writing her dissertation on religious sex workers and how they reconcile their vocation with faith.
