Although they are still considerably outnumbered by men, women are finding their way to Internet sexual Web sites in greater numbers than many had believed, according to an online survey. \n That was the conclusion of Alvin Cooper, clinical director of the San Jose (Calif.) Marital Services and Sexuality Centre, who wrote the 47 questions to which 13,500 users of the Internet responded. Based on the responses, Cooper analyzed about 9,000 questionnaires. \n Cooper found that the ration of men to women sex surfers was five to one. That means that about 17 percent of those who go to sex sites are women. Nearly 60 percent of the women who responded to the survey were between the ages of 18 and 34, according to MSNBC, which hosted the survey. \n Cooper told CNN that answers to questions indicate that people go to Internet sex sites for recreation or to be entertained and not for sexual gratification. "I think the Internet has the potential to revolutionize sexuality and I think it's having a major impact on sexuality our society. And I think it will, more and more in the future," Cooper said. \n Said one female respondent: "It's a lot more private. Nobody knows or needs to know what you're doing so you can feel free to do whatever you want." \n The survey is not based on a scientific random sample and,therefore, is useful mainly to suggest trends, not to prove them. Although the survey guaranteed anonymity, it is possible that some of those who filled it out were not absolutely honest. \n Cooper said his findings are preliminary and that he will keep studying sexual habits of Internet users.
