Women’s rights group were angry this week after an employment agency posted a want ad for a stripper at a local club, the Evening News reported.
The job, posted on the JobCentrePlus Web site, said it would be based in Edinburgh’s city centre area and that the successful candidate will have to perform duties such as “entertaining customers, pole dancing and private dances” and also indicated that “previous experience (was) not essential as full training will be provided.”
The ad also noted it would pay a competitive salary and that only those 18 and older will be considered.
But local women’s groups incensed by the ad have vowed to campaign against recent government policies that allow employment agencies to advertise for such jobs.
Among those critical of the job posting was Rape Crisis Scotland, which called the agency’s posting as “legitimising the exploitation of women.”
Sandy Brindley, national coordinator for Rape Crisis, said she complained to officials at JobCentrePlus, but was told that all legitimate sex industry jobs were allowed to be advertised after Scotland’s High Courts upheld a challenge by sex toy and lingerie chain Ann Summers.
