Salvatore LoCascio, a reputed caporegime in the Gambino crime family who is accused in an Internet porn scam, is free on a reported $10 million bail, Newsday reported June 10.
The prosecution tried but failed to show LoCascio a flight risk who misled his probation officer in an unrelated case. LoCascio's bail was put up by way of family and friends posting properties valued at $4 million to secure a bond, Newsday said.
The bail order won't be executed, however, until prosecutors can appeal a home detention question to a judge, the paper said.
LoCascio is charged with money laundering tied to an Internet porn scam said to be mastermined by another Gambino Family member, Richard Martino. The scam was described as tricking customers into having their credit cards billed up to $60 a visit for what were advertised as free tours of cyberporn sites, Newsday said.
LoCascio was charged with one count of money laundering in connection with an alleged fraud orchestrated by reputed Gambino soldier Richard Martino. Prosecutors have said that the scam caused consumers to be tricked into having their credit card accounts billed at $60 a shot for what were supposed to be free tours of internet sex sites.
