Popular affiliate program WEGCash has donated $5,000 to the Ray Guhn Defense Fund after winning a “bidding war” for banner placement in the message board signature of webmaster John “BoyAlley” Paul, chief executive officer of gay affiliate program AlleyBucks.
The promotion was set up by Paul as a way to contribute to the defense of Clinton “Ray Guhn” McCowen, Patrick Stevens, and Andrew “Jim Manley” Craft, who were arrested on obscenity charges in Pensacola, Fla., for employing local women to appear in hardcore footage on sites featured in the CashTitans affiliate program. As the highest bidder, WEGCash won banner placement in BoyAlley’s signature on several webmaster forums, as well as a top banner spot on GayMediaKit.com.
WEGCash Director of Product Development Cory Wayne presented the check to First Amendment attorney Lawrence G. Walters, who is serving as defense counsel for the three men, following the Good vs. Evil seminar that took place on Saturday, Aug. 5, during the Internext convention in Hollywood Beach, Fla.
“WEGCash and its entire staff—everyone from accounting to our system administration department—is a proud member of this industry and cherishes times where we are able to contribute for the cause of the greater good,” Wayne told AVNOnline.com.
For his part, Paul says he is proud of all the webmasters who bid during the promotion, and hopes to continue using message boards like GFY to help promote such causes.
“I applaud Corey and all of the folks from WEGCash for stepping forward in such a big way and for having some fun while doing it,” says Paul. “I look forward to auctioning off my gay ass again in the future to help raise money for other worthy causes.”
