Webdreams is a 10-part docu-soap series which aims at capturing the online adult industry through the actions and ambitions of those working in it, hoping to make it to the top.
The first season of the series was the top-rated show on Showcase, the Canadian equivalent of the US's HBO. Series Creator and producer Michael Kronish came up with the idea after reading a story about an amateur webcam couple in a Montreal weekly.
"For the longest time, the adult industry was controlled by a few key companies. The Internet changed all that; with the Net adult performers can literally become the masters of their own domain," says Kronish. Kronish was Line Producer on the 2003 Primetime Emmy and Gemini Award winning documentary series Cirque du Soleil Fire Within.
The series is filming its second season and airs internationally. Currently, the series' parent company, Gala Films, is in talks to distribute the series in the U.S. In addition to Webdreams, the Montreal-based Gala Films produces features films and kids shows.
Webdreams camera crews were on hand at Internext Summer to follow two of the six stories featured in the series: Vid Vicious and Violet Mansion.
Vicious, a 17-year broadcasting veteran (with 6 years in adult) and creative director and director of photography for Montreal Studio Multimedia (MSM) is the director of Porn Star Academy 2, the #1 selling adult DVD in Canada.
Vicious, now on the other end of the camera, has mixed feelings about having his life captured on film.
"It's so intrusive," says Vicious from poolside at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa, where Internext is being held."When you're being filmed, the camera crews are always looking for drama and I'm not about drama."
Opposite from Vicious, Livecamnetwork webcam performer Violet Manson loves the attention.
"I love having my picture taken," says Manson, who is also cross-promoting her own site (www.violetmanson.com) launching this weekend at Internext. Manson started her career with nude modeling at 18 and says she's excited about being the owner and operator of her own site.
Additionally, the series follows male webcam model Diesel, married adult performers Lance and Alexandra Strong and Uncle D. known as the Canadian "Buttman."
The second season of Webdreams is slated to air April 2007.
