WantedList.com got better than they hoped for when Asian Week came calling them back: they were told they landed the cover.
"We were quite excited to be interviewed by Asian Week, and thrilled to hear that we were going to make the cover story," said one of the co-founders, Danny Ting, announcing the cover story. "When they wanted to write a real life 'Better Luck Tomorrow' article by drawing on our experiences, we were only too happy to oblige. We think that this type of recognition from our peers substantiates what we've done, especially in a profession that isn't a typical Asian industry. Most of the time we just get high-fives."
Ting's fellow co-founder, Anh Tran, told AVN.com it was the first time WantedList.com got substantial attention from a publication that gears to their fellow Asian-Americans.
"We finally pitched to one of them," he said. "You know how hard it is sometimes, in general, press is very difficult to get, trying to prove yourself newsworthy. Surprisingly, we just came to them with an idea and they were like, 'Wow, we're surprised we never heard of you before.' We just thought we'd be a feature inside the magazine. We didn't think we'd make the cover."
Tran said landing Asian Week was especially significant because entertainment isn't the magazine's primary focus. "They write more about social and political issues," he said. "But everybody seems to want to write about porn nowadays, because it's so sexy."
The only English-language national news weekly aiming to Asian Americans, especially those descended from the Asian Pacific, Asian Week reaches an estimated 175,000 readers a week. The issue featuring Tran and Ting hit the newsstands October 16.
