Vivid Alt Introduces New Packaging

Vivid Alt has introduced a new packaging style with its two latest releases, director Vena Virago's Eastside Story — which streets today — and Winkytiki's new feature Man's Ruin, due out in April. Both titles will come in a three-panel gatefold sleeve which holds a two-disc set and an added pouch with a CD soundtrack (in the case of Eastside Story) and a temporary tattoo (in the case of Man's Ruin).

"It really just seems like things have to be as big as possible in this business," Vivid Alt head Eon McKai said with a laugh. "We've always done three-disc sets with a soundtrack, but they sort of got lost in the store with the old packaging…mostly because they had no spine. In the beginning we were just trying to find something that alt. people would like, but we were getting this kind of feedback from retailers…some people said [the old packaging] looked like a big pack of rolling papers."

McKai went on to say that Vivid and company President Steven Hirsch have given him the time and the means to experiment. "It's all a learning process and we're putting everything we have into every single release. It's a custom chopper every time."

Vivid Alt will host a release party for Eastside Story on Thursday at Bar 107 (107 W. 4th St.) in downtown Los Angeles. The party is set to start at 9 p.m., and will feature giveaways from Vivid Alt and adult retailer Babeland.

The party is open to the public, 21 and over. In addition to Virago and McKai, the guest list includes starlets Michelle Aston, Dana DeArmond, Roxy DeVille, Page Morgan and several more. The stars of Eastside Story will also be available for autographs throughout the night.
