Doctors are blaming a spike on sexually transmitted diseases at an Orlando retirement community on the increased availability of Viagra.
Dr. Colleen McQuade, a gynecologist at The Villages community near Orlando, told WKMG-TV that she is treating more cases of herpes and other STDs in the retirement community than she did when she worked in Miami.
“They are shocked (to hear the diagnoses),” McQuade said.
“I had a patient in her 80s.”
A doctor blamed Viagra and a lack of sex education for the spike in cases of sexually transmitted diseases.
One local resident agreed: “All I can repeat are the things I have heard which are things like, ‘Should I bring the little blue pills over tonight?’” said Richard Matwyshen, community Singles Club president.
