Anthony Mattei, the head of sales for Gotham Video, passed away suddenly over the weekend at age 42.
Gotham owner Vince Benedetti said he received the sad news Monday morning.
“The last time I saw him was about 3:30 this past Friday afternoon, and I got a call this morning from his landlord who found him. He died peacefully in his sleep,” Benedetti said.
Mattei had over 15 years of experience in adult, several with Bizarre Video before joining the Gotham team.
“He worked for us the last two years, and left and went back to Bizarre, and then came back again a year ago and had been with us ever since,” Benedetti said. “He’s been the head of our sales department, our top salesman and our office manager. He will be missed in this company.”
Mattei, who is from Clearwater, Fla., lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he coached junior high school kids in the Catholic School Basketball League.
“He was very enthusiastic about that,” said Benedetti, who knew Mattei for 10 years. “He was very jovial, a very happy person. He loved his kids. He was also a die-hard Mets fan.”
Mattei liked to be called “The Coz,” but he also earned the nickname “The Hammer” around the office for his approach to business.
“He was very dominating,” Benedetti said. “He was all business, and very well liked.”
Mattei is survived by his mother and father.
