Vermont Strip Club Owner Wins Lawsuit Against City

The City Council has agreed to pay strip club owner Danny Garr a $7,500 settlement to dismiss a federal lawsuit against the city.

According to the Burlington Free Press, Garr filed suit against the city for violating his First Amendment rights after a state judge refused to stop the city's plan to impose restrictions on his club Planet Rock 'N' Metal.

Barre officials wanted to enforce staffing requirements and a minimum distance between dancers and patrons at the club.

Garr will receive the entertainment license he originally sought as part of the settlement. The new license will not mandate staffing levels. A separate condition prohibiting "lewd physical contact" will be modeled on existing state law.
