Utah Anti-Porn Resolution Pressures U.S. Congress

A resolution urging U.S. Congress to regulate Internet porn received unanimous approval from the Utah House of Representatives. The Utah Legislature wants the U.S. Congress to take affirmative action to assist children and employees in avoiding adult pornographic content when accessing the Web.

Republican Rep. Brad Daw sponsored HCR3, stating that Utah wants Congress to enact legislation and take action to "facilitate a technology-based solution allowing parents and employers to obtain Internet access services that exclude adult content."

Rick Louis, manager of communications and government affairs for the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection, provided his opinion on the resolution. "ASACP supports parents who want to keep their kids off adult sites, and we recognize the right of any business to regulate Internet use by its own employees," Louis explained. "In fact, there are currently numerous options for parents and businesses who want Internet access that excludes adult content. For instance, Internet service providers, browsers, [filtering] software, search engines—and even computer operating systems offer parental control options."
