Talk about things getting out of hand. Four years ago, Cari L. Henderson was an undercover cop in Hamden, Conn. sniffing out potential drug violations at the Electric Beach tanning salon. \n Now she's the unwitting star of "Undercover Cop Sex" and is seeking to put a stop to sales of the tape over the Internet. Also, she is asking for monetary damages and an accounting of all profits. \n Henderson's undercover investigation didn't fool the two owners of the tanning salon. Patrick Baker of Stratford, Conn. and Ralph Manente of Bridgeport, Conn. suspected she was a cop after she began dating Manente. \n On June 14, 1994, Manente and his investigator went to his home. There, the two men secretly recorded Manente under the covers with the undercover cop. \n When police officials in Hamden saw Henderson's bust on videotape, she was forced off the force. Meanwhile, sales of the tape, including purchases over the Internet, have continued to this day. \n Henderson has asked the Connecticut Superior Court for an injunction against the sale of the tape. The motion is opposed by the Connecticut Civil Liberties Union, which is representing Baker and Manente. \n A lawyer for the men said the tape is protected by the First Amendment because it contains "newsworthy commentary" about a public official. Also, the lawyer argued, an injunction is useless because the tape has been on sale continuously since 1994. \n Judge Patty Jenkins Pittman of Superior Court is to rule on the motion after she sees a master tape of the sexual encounter and reviews written briefs from both sides.
