Students looking for Southport College course information got what they weren't looking for: links to adult websites, according to British news reports.
The campus's official website, www.southportcollege.ac.uk, was apparently confused with www.southportcollege.co.uk, with the latter said to offer "what you need, when you need it," but bringing link results slightly different than what students hoped to find.
"I was just browsing the site because I was thinking of attending a night course," an unnamed local resident told the Southport Visiter. "When I clicked onto one of the site's links, to my horror, down the right hand side of the screen it said 'porn'. As I started scrolling down the page, it started to list other Internet sites offering something of a sexual natureāI was shocked."
British reports indicated the culprit may be an American-based website using the official Southport domain to trick surfers into visiting the adult site.
The good news: Search engines automatically directed British Netizens to the proper site, the one with an "ac.uk" address and not a "co.uk" address. And, when AVNOnline tried to access the "co.uk" addressed site, the result showed nothing saying "porn" or any link to anything resembling adult websites.
