U.S., Canadian Groups Ally For War On Pornography

A combination of U.S. and Canadian anti-adult groups have teamed up for a war on porn of their own, including a new Website, WarOnPornography.com.

"We want to be as effective as possible in protecting and promoting this great institution and know that in order to do so we need to strike at the major root of the problem – pornography – the silent killer of families, individual self-esteem and ultimately the good in our society," says the Website in an opening statement. It is taking hold of our youth and many adults and locking our society onto a collision course with disaster."

The Website's home page claims that nine out of 10 children 8-16 years old have seen Internet porn, "mostly accidentally while doing their homework," as they cited from the London Telegraph in a 2002 story. The site also claims the average age of first exposure to Net porn is 11 and that porn is "much more addictive than alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs – in many cases it is instantly addictive," but it did not cite sources for those claims.

Neither did the site cite sources for claims that 41 percent of all children (11-17 years old) with Internet connections surf for Net porn while online; or, that one out of five children (10-17 years old) have received sexual solicitations while online; or, that 12-17-year-old children are "the single largest group of consumers of Internet pornography."

A query from AVNOnline.com for comment on the sources of those claims was unanswered before this story went to press.

The new group said they were hoping for a multinational anti-porn effort. "Pornography knows no borders so there must be a multinational effort in place," said a Website statement. "We are doing just that. We are establishing an alliance of Family organizations and politicians in both the U.S. and Canada that will pool their resources and become the largest and most influential force in the War on Pornography."

The groups sponsoring the Website and campaign include TheFamily.com, whose leadership includes Alan Osmond of the entertainment family; Citizens for Families; and, Canadian groups United Mothers and Citizens Voice.
