TiVo, Netflix Said Closer To TiVo Movie Download Deal

Internet DVD rental service Netflix and television recorder manufacturer TiVo are believed close to a deal to let Netflix subscribers download films over the Net onto their TiVo devices, Newsweek is reporting this week.

TiVo’s board could approve the deal this week, the magazine is reporting in its newest issue, a service that would require subscribing both to TiVo and Netflix and a broadband connection.

Neither TiVo nor Netflix commented on the deal speculation to Newsweek, and announcements related to the deal were not seen at either company’s Website as of September 7.

TiVo has said in recent weeks that it’s been working on delivering unique content over the Internet to subscriber boxes, and at the beginning of the year the company bought Strangeberry, a company designing broadband television software, Newsweek said.
