Time Warner has agreed to send refunds to America Online and CompuServe subscribers, settling suits over billing practices at the two Internet access providers owned by the media giant.
The deal means the suits in California and Oklahoma get tossed, though Time Warner admitted no liability in the settlement deal, according to a published report.
Just how much money the settlement and refunds involve has yet to be revealed, but AOL and CompuServe subscribers will get refunds for the number of months they were billed after they tried ending the services, which is at issue in the lawsuits.
"The vast majority of subscribers who may have had their cancellations not processed most likely had two months or less [of bills]," said plaintiffs' attorney Seth Lesser to Bloomberg News. "They can get 100 cents on the dollar."
