Three active Queensland police officers may be under investigation for Internet child porn, as computer equipment from each was seized as part of an ongoing probe, according to Australian news reports.
The unnamed officers are said to be based in north Queensland, the Sunshine Coast, and Brisbane.
The Queensland Police Ethical Standards Committee led the seizure of the computer equipment, while police officials say a full investigation by the Crime and Misconduct Division would determine whether any or all three officers would face charges.
Australia was rocked last summer and fall when authorities announced a major child porn crackdown, landing over two hundred arrests involving over two thousand criminal charges, but also provoking consequences such as four suicides involving suspects in the caseāone of which suicides was a former police officer.
The crackdown also affected the legitimate adult Internet in Australia, when reports emerged in November that the crackdown contributed to a drop in visits to legitimate adult sites.
