I have a personal opinion regarding to porn in the media, and the comparison between the US and Germany. I think that in the German media, the topic porn is always quite scandalous.
The media likes to report only about problems and actresses in Germany. For example my fellow German performer Anny Aurora was in the German media with the headline, "Student shoots porn.' She was criticized and asked what will become of her later or if she thought it over well. I think the Germans are already quite anxious to ask, "Now that you do porn, what do you plan to do later in life?"
They point out that at some point the ravages of time are reached or the skin becomes wavy and then you do not want to shoot porn anymore—what do you do then? They ask, "Do you have any other experience at all? What do you think about how your children would react? Do you even want to have children of your own? Don't you think that's irresponsible?“ I think these are the classic questions that you get every time in Germany.
In the US, I honestly do not have that feeling.
I will tell you a nice anecdote from my life in the USA: I was golfing with my colleagues and then we had a drink on the golf course. While we were talking in German, an older lady spoke to us. I guess the lady was around 70 or 80 years old. She wanted to talk to us and asked us where we came from and what kind of job we have in the US. I wondered if I really should to tell an 80-year-old lady that we are shooting porn. But we explained to her honestly that we are porn actors and my other colleague a producer. At that moment, my face blushed because I thought, "Oh god." But the reaction from the woman was funny because she just said, "Oh, cool. Well, that's also an interesting job." This lady was completely open-minded because I believe this profession is much more recognized here. This is what I do see in the media. Here they speak honestly about their profession. This is normal in the US and no one here asks the question: "What if you stop doing porn at some point? What do you want to do then?" I think that although the Americans are so prudish in many things they are relatively open-minded at the end. This is really regarded as a "normal" profession, although paradisiacal, but ultimately it is considered as a normal profession.
In Germany you are also a bit of a bird of paradise, but it is different. I also believe that Americans, for example, make no distinction between a showgirl and a porn actress. In the United States, you live in a country where many are in the film industry, and whether you're naked or if you're only showing breasts you're a normal showgirl. An additional aspect is that in the US forums, for example, it is normal to talk about porn. The AVN is celebrated it and even broadcast on TV. Now I cannot imagine that in Germany RTL, Sat1, VOX, RTL 2 or any channel would broadcast the Venus Awards on television. In the US, the entire show is broadcasted. People are proud of what they do; everyone accepts it and everyone is celebrated for it. The perception and communication are also very different here.
I think it is simply that it's normal in America. And after meeting the older lady, I've never kept it secret then. I do not do that in Germany, because I know the reaction: "Hmm, that's interesting." And everyone looks weird. I just do not have that feeling in the US at all. It is quite positive here and also positive in the media, you are really celebrated here as a star. In Germany on the other hand, they say, "Hmm, yes, porn starlet right?" They always talk you down.
You do not have that in the US. If you are successful as a porn star you are also celebrated by all for that.
To sum it up, I have to say: In the USA, as a porn actress you have a normal job, that‘s it.
I have a funny story: I was in Forever 21 and I met a girl with a MyFreeCams top. It was very clear that she does webcam otherwise she would not have that stuff. She walks across the street quite normally and I think—it's great. In Germany, they would think three times about whether they would wear a Visit-X top with a fat brand of Visit-X or something else. This is to be considered as more critical in Germany and in the US it is simply not like that. The profession of porn actor is here a regular profession and in Germany it is not: "She didn't know what she should do and just needed money fast, that's why she is a porn actress." They would say that's the content in all articles in Germany and that is definitely the difference between the US and Germany.
