"Charles Dorsey!! Come get your $10,000 or I'll take it," Tera Patrick shouted into the microphone.
"Five… four… three… two… one!" chanted the crowd of 200-plus people hoping that Dorsey would be the third no-show and Evan Seinfeld would have to pick another ticket out of the raffle bucket. The raffle, sponsored by Pure Vanilla, was the culmination of the company's big weeklong promotional push at the 2007 Adult Entertainment Expo.
After the crowd counted down and no Charles Dorsey appeared, Seinfeld began digging around for another ticket, Patrick held aloft the thick wad of bills totaling $10,000 in cash and the crowd cheered in approval.
"Chris Johnson!" Seinfeld called into the microphone. And after a few tense moments, the crowd began counting down again. But this time, the owner of the winning raffle ticket stepped up to claim his prize.
"You just won $10,000," Seinfeld said to Johnson, who was all smiles and entirely at a loss for words.
To pacify those who didn't win, Pure Vanilla girls started throwing out free Pure Vanilla t-shirts into the crowd as Patrick handed over the stack of hundred dollar bills. Strangers patted Johnson on the shoulder.
"Can you believe that shit?" Johnson said.
