Teacher Fired for Appearance in 1995 Adult Video

A teacher has been suspended and her contract will not be renewed, local school district officials said after it was discovered the woman had appeared in an adult video 11 years ago.

Tericka Dye, who teaches science and coaches volleyball at Reidland High School in this Western Kentucky city, was suspended May 3 and told she would be fired after school administrators learned of her X-rated background, according to the Paducah Sun.

“Your presence would cause a disruption to the educational process," wrote Tim Heller, McCracken County Schools superintendent.

“I fear there would be less than a serious approach to schooling by students who viewed the video or know about it.”

Dye told the newspaper she suffers from bipolar disorder and appeared in the unnamed 1995 video because she was homeless and living in Los Angeles.

“I absolutely 100 percent regret doing that,” she said. “I’ve always tried to look ahead and not focus on it. But I wasn’t diagnosed at the time.”

Despite her early struggles, Dye joined the Army and served with the military police before earning a college degree and becoming a teacher.

Some parents have expressed their support for Dye, staging a rally last week.

“We’ve all done things that we regret. Except hers is on tape,” said Bonnie Chilcoat, a local parent who supports the teacher.
