Strip Club Owner Says New Rules Don’t Apply to his Club

The owner of the Red Barn strip club says his business is no longer an “adult business” and that new city restrictions no longer apply to it.

Red Barn owner Herb Newhouse told WZZM-TV last week that his dancers have covered up their tops and bottoms and, as a result, city restrictions for adult businesses no longer apply to his club.

Newhouse, who has sued the city claiming a violation of his First Amendment rights, said his dancers don’t have to stay six feet away from customers and can give lap dances for $20.

It was just last month that the city passed an ordinance banning nudity in strip clubs as well as imposing a rule that keeps dancers at least six feet away from customers.

Newhouse said he hopes the now bikini-clad dancers and his new policy will bring customers back. Newhouse claims he is losing $2,000 a day or 80 percent of his revenue since the new city regulations went into place.

City officials did not comment.
