The owner of a strip club told the City Council that a proposed liquor ban and other restrictions on adult businesses would adversely impact his club.
Robert Hooks, manager of Club Paradise along West U.S. 84, said his club has been exemplary in its operation which includes a strict ID policy of issuing wristbands for adults under 21 as well as rules against women coming into the club unescorted, the Valdosta Daily Times reported.
At issue is a proposed city measure that would ban alcohol at the club along with new requirements for the location of clubs to ensure they are not too close to homes, schools, parks and other public facilities. The proposal is scheduled to go before the council on Thursday.
Hooks explained that his club has no VIP rooms or other private rooms, making it an ideal getaway for men seeking time away from their spouses or girlfriends.
Councilman David Sumner requested a provision to the ordinance to grandfather Hooks’ business into the measure, allowing the club to continue to serve alcohol.
