St. Croix Directs Feature for First Time in Eight Years for Simon Wolf

Simon Wolf Productions new feature Blue Angels: The Second Coming was directed by Stephen St. Croix, the first feature the multiple AVN Award winning performer has directed in eight years. In addition to directing the project, St. Croix reprises his role as Tough Tony from the 2002 video Blue Angel.

St. Croix explains his directing hiatus very simply: he wasn’t interested. Suggesting that the budgets from most production companies aren’t really adequate and bemoaning the lack of adequate studio facilities available to adult, St. Croix didn’t want to invest any extra creativity or time than was required of him as a performer.

“It’s just not worth the time and the effort. So I just, kinda, stayed away from it,” St. Croix said.

“I’ve worked with Simon Wolf previously in a number of their movies, and they wanted to do a sequel to Blue Angel,” St. Croix said. “And I said, ‘Well, why don’t you give me a shot.’ Well, they were comfortable with doing that, and that’s how it worked out.”

Tough Tony and Joe Dog, two low-level mobsters that are killed and have to work their way out of purgatory by becoming guardian angels. Joe Dog, being played once again by Herschel Savage, was actually killed by Tough Tony – laying the groundwork for some comedic friction.

“You could say they don’t get along so well, kinda like Christopher and Paulie in the Sopranos. They just don’t get along,” St. Croix said.

But they have to, because the devil has installed a virus in heaven’s computers that basically interprets bad people as good people and vice versa. The devil’s plan is to take over heaven once enough of the bad people are inside the pearly gates. Tough Tony and Joe Dog have to check people out to verify they are indeed good people, and stumble across the plot.

That’s a lot of plot for porn, but St. Croix managed to not to let the plot get in the way of the sex.

“The hard part is getting the characters into the situation without making it seem like, ‘Blah blah blah blah. I’m horny. Let’s fuck.’ That’s just the challenge of adult. It was a challenge, but we pulled it off. I was happy with what I saw.” St. Croix said.

John Chambliss, owner of Simon Wolf Productions, was even happier.

“Every time I look at this, I think it’s better than I did the last time I saw it. Steven has done a wonderful job on this, he’s really a terrific directing talent,” Chambliss said.

Of course it didn’t hurt that St. Croix was able to put together a cast of people he knew he could rely on.

“Since it’d been so long since I directed, I had a wish list of people I wanted to work with, people that I knew I could rely on that would not waste my time and would help us get out at a decent hour,” St. Croix said, noting that even though the production had a few setbacks, the professionalism of the talent and the crew made it possible for the three-day shoot to wrap only 30-minutes after its scheduled time.

“So we got everything we needed and maintained the integrity of the movie without really cutting stuff. In fact, I didn’t cut anything,” St. Croix said.

The cast was rounded out by: Kelly Kline, Lezley Zen, Nyomi Marcela, Eva Angelina, Dana Vespoli, Kayla Paige, Evan Stone, Richard Raymond, Chris Cannon, Dale Da Bone, Micky Ray and Mike Horner.

St. Croix plans to direct six or eight features this year. “I’ll get the juices flowing and see what happens. And at the beginning of the year I’ll decide if I want to do a full time gig directing or whatever,” St. Croix said.
