SplitInfinity Network Acquires Split.com

Web host SplitInfinity Network announced the acquisition of the domain name Split.com from Toronto-based domain name investment and consulting firm DnStrategy.com.

SplitInfinity has no plans to move their web site, but the new domain, for which they paid $40,000, signals a nod to customer convenience… or laziness.

“Everybody has always complained about our domain name, saying it was too long, there are too many I’s in it and clumsy fingers don’t like to type the domain name. The other thing is, when our customers tell people who they host with, they always just call us Split,” SplitInfinity president Chris Jester told AVNOnline.com. “We were long after that domain because the previous owners were giving us referrals and we figured out it was cheaper to buy the domain outright from them, rather than pay them commission for the life of the customers.”

Split.com now directs to the SplitInfinity site, where the name carries a bit of significance for Jester, who read Pierce Anthony’s book series of the same name when he was a child.

“Throughout my life, those particular books have inspired me in a lot of ways. When I was a kid, I used to use it as my chat name on dial-up bulletin board systems… it goes all the way to when I was nine years old,” Jester said.

“That has been the ethos of the company. It’s what originally inspired me to start the company.”

The transaction is expected to close during the fourth quarter of 2005 and is subject to customary contractual closing conditions.
