Suze Randall couldn’t have known she was making erotica history back in 1979, but 25 years later the work endures. The re-release of Suze’s Centerfolds 1&2 puts back into circulation the first two volumes of the notorious “Centerfolds” series from 1979. Photographer turned director Randall and stars like Robin, Kevin James and Randy West make these movies both a must-see for nostalgia fans and entertaining for fresh eyes as well.
The release of Centerfolds 1 & 2 is part of a deal Randall has reached with Pure Play Media where the company releases one new film and one classic on alternating months. Although the company cannot release details of the arrangement with the director, Carly Milne at Pure Play calls the relationship ongoing and long-term. She confirms the deal is relatively new: this is the second classic film, with the second new release due next month. “I think it’s been interesting to gauge the audiences on these films,” she told AVN.com. “Both kinds of releases have done well for Pure Play, but they’re different viewers that are attracted to both. There are certainly feelings of nostalgia that play into it. For some people it might be the first porn they had ever seen. For others it might be that this is what porn was like back in the day when I was a kid.”
Watching the eight vignettes shot on film with a cast of mostly first-time performer allows the viewer to catch some entertainers at the beginning of their careers, like Cody Nicole and Paul Thomas, and to mark the Randall’s unique visual style at its filmic inception: her signature lighting techniques, use of color and extravagant sets included.
