International Film Group (IFG) is an adult production company and a distributor based in Spain that was one of the first to hire the likes of Nacho Vidal, Toni Ribas, and Sophie Evans, porn stars of Spanish origin whose sexuality has translated into success in the United States.
IFG hopes that their production arm’s sexuality will translate just as well as the porn stars who crossed the Atlantic before them and in order to accomplish their goal of imprinting their name on the American adult market, they’ve hired Angel Pictures International to negotiate and oversee a distribution deal with a major distributor.
Josie Snyder, president of Angel Pictures International, says that IFG North America wants to release one high-end feature a month and one gonzo a month in the United States through a major distributor.
“They constantly turn out award winning high-end productions that look like mainstream movies – but with sex,” Snyder told AVN.com, offering by way of example high-end titles such as Hot Rats, an IFP project that won seven Ninfa awards at last year’s International Erotic Film Festival of Barcelona.
Snyder feels that the market for Spanish-language adult content is sorely underserved in the United States – ten percent of American households speak Spanish at home.
Not that Snyder is asking distributors to ignore the 82 percent of households that do speak English at home, nor even the eight percent that speak another language.
IFG recently began shooting their productions in English – and their DVDs are multilingual with audio tracks available in English, Spanish, French, and Italian and an option for subtitles in Portugese.
And even the VHS comes with language options.
“If we had a distributor here who wanted the English version, but also wanted to take advantage of the Spanish-language market as well, we could provide two masters – one for each language,” Snyder said.
Of course there is more to meeting the demands of the American market than overcoming the language barrier – there’s also the American sensibilities to consider.
IFG first began distributing adult films in Spain twenty years ago, becoming one of Spain’s top distributors by landing exclusive distribution rights from John Leslie, Rocco Siffredi, John Stagliano and many top European directors.
Their production arm has been making high-end features since 1996, when they produced the 35 mm film Torero, which starred Rocco Siffredi and Sunset Thomas, an award winning film that IFG claims set the standard for all subsequent IFG productions.
