Adult novelty retailer Smitten Kitten has announced the launch of its nationwide Pussy Parties. The new educational program is designed to bring quality, non-toxic sex toys and resources into a welcoming home-party atmosphere.
"With most at-home party programs, anyone can be a sales rep," says Jessica Giordani, co-founder of the Smitten Kitten. "We prefer to have people with experience working in sex education, [such as] Planned Parenthood or HIV-related educational work. Our program director travels out and does in-person interviews. Applicants have to go through our curriculum and pass a few tests before they’re given their party kits."
The market for in-home sex-toy parties has become a booming industry, and Smitten Kitten is using this platform to continue its mission of raising consumer consciousness regarding sex-toy safety. Giordani and Smitten Kitten co-owner Jennifer Pritchett also founded the Coalition Against Toxic Toys (C.A.T.T.) in 2005.
Trained sex educators present each Pussy Party workshop utilizing display models of sex toys and equipment, informational worksheets and diagrams, as well as their own expertise to encourage attendees to make smart consumer decisions and empowered choices about their own sexuality.
Each Pussy Party workshop follows a specific curriculum developed by Smitten Kitten to provide medically accurate, sex-positive information and resources in a format appropriate for people of all genders, sexual orientations, and relationship styles. The workshops do not exclude men, nor do they rely on juvenile terminology for the human anatomy.
"We wanted to make sure we had a program that stood out in the industry," Giordani explains. "We make sure our educators know all the information about the toys they are presenting and that they exclusively sell safe, non-toxic toys at the parties."
