SmashBucks has removed the digital rights management (DRM) protection from the videos on three of their sites, the company announced.
The move comes after the release of Microsoft’s Security Pack 2, which caused problems for users trying to access their DRM-protected content.
“The surfers were getting feisty, having to put passwords in each time to unlock the movies. Some of them on dial-up just didn’t have the right setup to see the movies so it was affecting retention, which is no good,” SmashBucks vice president of sales and marketing, Ellisa Kamula tells AVNOnline.com.
Ironically, the DRM technology the company was using was a Microsoft product, Kamula says.
Sites going DRM-free are MommyLovesPussy.com, DoMyMom.com, and PornstarClassics.com.
The move isn’t permanent though. SmashBucks is pro-DRM and will go back to when said issues are resolved.
“DRM is a wicked technology and it should be what we all use, but we have to make sure the surfers can handle it before we go back,” Kamula says. “It is inevitable that DRM is the future of pay sites as it is far more efficient for putting sites together and for not leaking out too much content.”
SmashBucks will be adding five new sites to their eight-site portfolio in the near future.
