LOS ANGELES—Smash Pictures has formally invited Bridesmaids director Paul Feig to the set of its adult parody of his movie. The invite was prompted after Feig posted on Twitter that he was flattered a porn parody was being made of his hit comedy.
“Couldn’t be prouder of this,” Feig Tweeted on June 1, after learning of Smash’s production from a Howard Stern Show staffer. He posted a link to the AVN article announcing the project and said “#wonderwhenproductionbegins” using the Twitter hashtag format.
Upon learning of Feig’s comments, Smash Pictures Vice President Stuart Wall immediately Tweeted Feig back to extend a formal invitation.
“I saw Bridesmaids in the theater and thought it completely hilarious so I announced our production right away knowing it would be perfect for adult audiences,” Smash Pictures Vice President Stuart Wall told AVN. “I was really blown away when I saw Mr. Feig’s Tweet saying that he was proud a porn parody is being made of his movie. I sincerely offered him an invite to see our production and hope he is able to come on one of our shoot days. I’ve been a huge fan of his since he created Freaks and Geeks.”
Taking a page from it's mainstream counterpart, Smash's version will even be filmed on the same set Feig used for the uproarious airplane scene.
Bridesmaids is scheduled to shoot in July in and around Los Angeles.
Oh, and just in case, you need Wall’s email address, Mr. Feig, it’s [email protected].
