Porn newcomer Mandy Starr isn't just playing the titular role in Simon Wolf's Mandy: The Perfect Gift - she's also the inspiration for the Bud Lee-directed feature.

While editing Starr's behind-the-scenes type footage in Young Pink, Simon Wolf CEO John Chambliss became enamored with the 20-year-old starlet. "The more I worked with the footage, the more I saw in her something that I haven't seen in anybody in years," Chambliss told AVN.com. "There was a vibrancy, a sense of total uninhibitedness, though not in a showboat sense. There was just so much energy. So there I am, thinking to myself 'I'm so fucking old. What would it be like to be in love with someone like that.' And that's where the story came from."
As the story goes, a 37-year-old man, played by Joey Ray, meets Mandy. He's depressed and having relationship problems. Then he runs into Mandy.
Chambliss bumped back his production schedule to make room for the time to shoot the feature. He even spent three days coaching the Ray and Starr, neither of whom had much acting experience, for the dialogue.
"My whole theory of casting has changed because of this," Chambliss said, who traditionally uses more established performers for his story-driven features. "I've learned that you don't have to have a big star to carry a feature. If you use a fresh face, it can be even easier for people to believe that they are in that role."
In fact, for his next feature, E-Love Wanted, Chambliss intends to cast all fresh faces.
However, for Mandy: The Perfect Gift, Chambliss wasn't taking any more chances. He filled the rest of the cast with plenty of heavy hitters. Reigning AVN Female Performer of the Year Aurora Snow, Julie Meadows, Ashley Long, Petra, Lexi Matthews, Tanya James, Dale Dabone, Chris Cannon, Tony Pounds and Mike Horner round out the cast.
There are six sex scenes in Mandy; five boy/girls and one girl/girl. "I haven't been this worked up over a girl in a long time. Her scene was incredible," Chambliss said.
A day-and-date release, Mandy: The Perfect Gift streets May 27.
