It was a scene right out of New York City. Or a Goth-themed Halloween party. Indeed, the AVN co-sponsored Sharp Edges art exhibit drew such a diverse crowd of tattooed, pierced and platform-booted punk rockers and curious thrill seekers that it had the air of a gallery opening in the trendy, Lower East Side of Manhattan. Saturday's event featured the daring work of fetish photographer Justice Howard and the gritty work of writer John Gilmore (Severed: The Story of the Black Dahlia).
Howard’s photography, which included several of shots depicting models (including rock-and-roller Dave Navarro and adult starlet and fetish model, Brittany Andrews), displayed not only her penchant for depicting fetish material as both humane and sensual, but also her unadulterated love of knives (sharp edges).
While many guests milled around the exhibit – which also featured a film installation – several of Howard’s models also mingled with the crowd. Several pieces from the exhibit were auctioned off in support of the Children of the Night charity, including a few of pinup model Mamie Van Doren and five of Andrews.
Howard, whose photos are featured in the July issue of AVN Online, was in especially good spirits throughout the evening, greeting guests and discussing her work. “It shot through the stratosphere!” she later told AVNOnline.com. “We had over 600 people attend during the three-hour time period. A lot of people just came in made a donation, saw the art, and left. No complaints there! A pal of mine won the dream date with Brittany Andrews… and everyone had a million questions for my pal John.
“I don’t do group shows any more nor do I generally take on 'show partners,'” she said of joining talents with Gilmore, “but it was a well-planned and obvious marriage of our talents. With both of our large fan bases it worked out extremely well.”
Howard added that she was especially grateful to AVN. “Without AVN and their help, this night would not have come to fruition,” she said.
