Award nominations have opened for the seventh annual Cybersocket Awards. The Cybersocket Awards honors the best lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender websites, and each year, outstanding websites are recognized for their achievements in 29 different surfer categories and 19 different industry categories. Nominees are selected by both Web surfers, who select the Surfer’s Choice awards and by industry professionals, who select the Industry Choice awards.
Sites are nominated based on how well they fulfill their advertised missions, as well as for their usefulness, design, and uniqueness. Surfers vote for favorite sites in any number of categories and choose and determine the winners. Votes will be tallied as they are submitted, and the winners in each category will be announced at the awards ceremony.
“We encourage everyone to vote for their favorite sites,” says Cybersocket President Morgan Sommer.
Cybersocket, founded in 1996, is the parent company of various LGBT online, print, and communication services. Cybersocket produces a leading search engine, several email newsletters, an annual guide to the LGBT Internet, and distributes a large, free, printed magazine for the LGBT community, with a circulation of 70,000 issues monthly.
The awards show will be part of The Gay Phoenix Forum. It will be the first night of the show at Amsterdam Bar.
“It will be lots of fun, and this year, it’s for the surfers and fans,” says Sommer. “Webmasters will have a VIP area, but the majority of the crowd will be fans.”
