Would you call cyberspace a better place with a cyber-stripogram? X2K Media Services would since they've launched Strip-E-Gram.com, an online greeting card service using full-motion streaming video to send a virtual stripper – including some legends of striptease and erotica – with a greeting right to you or your chosen friend's cyberdoor.
"The funny thing was," co-developer Stephen Bugbee told AVN.com, "that I've done a lot of time in advertising, and one of the markets we noticed was hitting big was online greeting cards. And everyone said you have your Blue Mountain, your American Greetings, and your little content with a picture and a text, so our concept was to come up with a streaming media card. And in doing that, we built technology ourselves and shot the content ourselves and we said, ‘What about a stripper greeting, (adult) would be a great test market for it.’"
Launched initially at the recent Erotica L.A. trade show, Strip-E-Gram.com includes porn stars, Playmates (including Devin Devasquez, Rebecca Love, and Sharon Wild), Penthouse Pets, Hollywood Men ("so the ladies can send them, too"), fan dance legend Sally Rand, actress Heather Thomas, and even some classic burlesque and erotica stars, including and especially pinup legend Bettie Page.
"Most of our stuff is public domain," he said of acquiring footage of Page, who has kept mostly out of the public eye since leaving modeling in the late 1950s, "but since everybody screwed her for so long, we approached her people about doing this stuff and paying her royalties." The Bettie Page material hasn't yet been added to the Strip-E-Gram repertoire, however.
Future plans include launching a joke card service, FunnyGram, on April Fool's Day, and a mainstream E-Gram to feature more mainstream movie and other clips, Bugbee said. "But we'll always have Strip-E-Gram standing alone," he said. "It's a novelty gift. And we want to go to the adult base, but we don't want to go too wild with it. At the same time, I want Maxim and the other big media outlets to accept this."
