2Much Internet Service says the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) threat that has troubled recent travelers to and from Canada is no threat to those planning to attend next month's Cybernet Expo here. The company says the Canadian government has confirmed the slim-to-none travel threat, with SARS confined and controlled in Toronto-area hospitals well south of Montreal.
"It will be a crying shame if the Cybernet Expo conference?is affected by SARS," 2Much chief executive officer Mark Price said in a statement. "Montreal is a beautiful city and Fay Sharp has put a lot of hard work into making the conference an enjoyable and educational experience. The entire SARS thing has been so blown out of proportion."
The SARS outbreak in Toronto prompted a large volume of travel alarm, even extending to major league baseball, when some members of the Anaheim Angels worried about making a recent road trip to play the Toronto Blue Jays. The World Series winners made the trip anyway, even though Angel pitcher Kevin Appier had expressed public misgivings about going because of the SARS outbreak.
But 2Much believes the SARS alarm has been sounding well out of proportion, given that the number of confirmed Canadian cases "does not even amount to 16, and the number of people killed on the highways every day exponentially exceeds that number." The company says the Canadian government and medical authorities "have done everything in their power to stop the spread of SARS into Canada and North America.
"Canada is a massive country with several large urban centers," a company statement continues. "Montreal is one of those and Montrealers have not and will not be affected by SARS."
2Much, of course, plans a major afterhours party for Cybernet Expo showgoers at their own offices June 4, complete with live entertainment, food and drink.
