Brett Rockman has announced plans to begin handling his own distribution for Rockman Enterprises, which will make him one of the few performer-producers who distributes his own product.
Rockman Enterprises’ first independent release will be XXX Training Day, which is due out on March 31. He plans to follow that with one new release per month.
“I’m just approaching everything from a long-term standpoint,” Rockman told AVN.com. “The way things worked out, I ended up having my own booth at AEE, and it triggered a chain reaction of thoughts. I thought, ‘I’m putting all my money into this booth out here, why don’t I just take it to the next step.’ Part of it is ambition. If I want this company to expand, if my goal is to really have a big company, then why not start somewhere and sell direct, rather than try to build my name using someone’s else’s name?”
Rockman, a full-time performer who was nominated for AVN Male Performer of the Year in January, also directs part-time. He started Rockman Enterprises in the fall of 2003. Now he has six titles.
“The way I’m choosing to do it by establishing my own sales is much, much harder, but even though it’s more work now, it will pay off,” Rockman said Sunday. “You contact distributors and make the deals directly and establish that personal relationship. You control your destiny more, as opposed to waiting on other people. Why let others do for you what you can do for yourself?
“If I put my heart, sweat and tears into something, I want to be able to control it.”
His first two movies, Double Indulgence 1 and 2, came out through Wildlife Productions’ Powerhouse Limited label.
”They sold those two movies for me. That two-movie deal, it helped to get me started. It helped get my foot in the door,” Rockman said.
Then Cinema Play Entertainment distributed his next release, Blowjobs Gone Wild. After that, Rockman hooked up with Antigua Pictures, which distributed Stick Your Pole in My Rear Hole and 2 Hot to Handle.
Rockman said he just finished his first POV video, Facial Deposits. His Chew On My Spew, Vol. 2 for Doghouse Digital earned a 2005 AVN nomination for Best POV release.
Rockman said he would release Facial Deposits in April, 2 Hot to Handle 2 in May and Blowjobs Gone Wild 2 in June.
“With Rockman Enterprises launching its own distribution, Antigua is playing a key role in helping me get started,” Rockman said, noting that Antigua’s Todd Blatt is assisting with the process.
In the meantime, Rockman said he is scheduled to direct eight scenes for Antigua in the next two weeks and will continue to perform.
“I would like to continue working for other productions,” he said. “Eventually I will be looking to hire a salesperson. I’m going to pave the way first and build the company. After I feel it’s stable, then I will hand it to a salesperson.”
