Plans for a second sex shop have sparked outrage among conservative residents who fought to stop the first one from opening in the same neighborhood. A shop called Private Lives has recently opened down the street from another adult shop called Utopia, which opened its doors a year previous.
Private Lives has applied to the Gosport Borough Council for a sex shop license. The shop currently sells lingerie and sex toys but, if given the go-ahead on the license, it will be able to stock hardcore releases.
Several conservative residence have expressed their disapproval with the opening, and www.portsmouth.co.uk reported that the residence cannot understand why there need to be two shops in the same road and feel that both shops are out of place in the area.
Peggy Radford told the website, “I can't think of a reason why we would need two. Most of the residents are families and elderly people, it's just terrible.”
Gosport Council deputy leader Graham Burgess told the website that every application would be judged on its merits, “Gosport Borough Council said that they would permit two sex shops in Gosport, the fact they are both on Forton Road is immaterial.”
“The residents' points of view will be looked at before a final decision is made.”
