ATLANTA—Raw Dawgg Entertainment, a producer of urban, ethnic transsexual content, is in talks with brick-and-mortar distributors interested in introducing the studio’s material to the retail DVD market, a spokesman said Thursday.
For seven years, Raw Dawgg’s content has been available exclusively online. A perceived lack of African-American TS films on the shelves in real-world adult stores convinced the producers to make the move, according to the studio’s principal performer.
“As a performer, I find an empty void in the TS market, and I feel as a company we can have success in the wholesale markets and hopefully become the hottest TS line in the world,” Madison told AVN.com. “One of the keys to our success thus far is, we’re filming everything in the Atlanta area, with homegrown American transgender models. Sadly, there is a shortage of American TS films available, much less Afro-American, compared to what is available in Latin and or Asian TS film.
“We have done some recent testing in the wholesale and retail markets, and frankly, even we are impressed with the immediate demand for more titles,” Madison continued. “However, after dominating the web for seven-plus years now, we’re not as surprised as we are thankful people really enjoy our work. Since we have had pretty good success selling our movies exclusively to our online customers, it’s only natural we take that final step into the markets that will allow for our stuff to be sold throughout the world.”
The decision to seek wholesale representation was not made on a whim, Raw Dawgg producer Big Dick Bitch told AVN.com. Significant time and effort was expended in research to determine the potential extent of the market. In the end, the biggest argument on the positive side was the heart the studio and its employees put into every production. Because the studio is staffed by transsexuals who actually live the life—not content producers simply trying to cash in on an underserved niche—Raw Dawgg productions have an extra edge of authenticity, Big Dick Bitch averred.
“We have been approached by a couple of distribution companies over the past few weeks, and I am grateful for that, but in the end we know we have a good product that will make whoever has it money,” Big Dick Bitch said. “So we’re going to see where things take us for the next couple of months in the wholesale markets, and then make some final decisions. To date Raw Dawgg has 10 films available, five of which have been in very limited release here in Atlanta through some of the local retail stores. Based on those results, we are now making them available throughout the U.S., so we’re excited to see what we can do from here.”
Added Madison, “It's all very exciting for us, but at the same time I understand this business isn’t forgiving of poor-quality films that have no substance. We have been very fortunate to have some wonderful people guiding us in the right direction. With the type of stuff we’re shooting, we can really do well in the wholesale markets with a product that has a solid place in the stores, both online and brick-and-mortar.”
