Recognizing the market potential of hardcore wall-to-wall videos, AVN Hall of Famer Mitch Spinelli is forming Acid Rain, an imprint of Rain Productions that will specialize in hardcore core sex with high production values.
Now 44, Spinelli has been in the business for over two decades, starting his career penning a number of scripts for his legendary father Anthony Spinelli, including Sex World, and Nothing to Hide, Talk Dirty to Me.
"I was weaned on stories and rehearsing years ago. Then it changed to gonzo. Now it's changing again. The bar is being raised and now it's a marathon of hardcore sex that you need to keep people's attention," Spinelli told AVN.com.
"Now it seems like what everyone is doing is like reality television in a sense. They are pushing the envelope just a little farther. That seems to be what is really selling. Of course the sex has to be good, it has to be dirty. I just don't think you can dance around it anymore - you have to make an effort to compete. It's like the Olympics of sex," he said.
Thus Acid Rain. Spinelli plans on each tape made by the new imprint having six sex scenes, one more than the standard five, for a tape that runs a total of 120 minutes. Of course Spinelli will add a few of his signature touches to the tapes - high-end production values and his ability to spot future stars.
Spinelli points to two Rain Productions series as examples of his ability to capture women who go on to be stars in their early days: White Panty Chronicles which captured Tera Patrick and Briana Banks in their pre-contract days; and, Taped College Confessions, utilizing Devinn Lane and Alexis before they joined Wicked Pictures stable.
"It's definitely something I'm known for, that I've had good luck with. It’s something I'll be doing for Acid Rain as well," said Spinelli.
Production for Acid Rain titles will start in June. Spinelli will direct the first few himself, with plans to release the first tapes as early as September. Working titles for two series he plans are Teeny Natural Titties, and Fuck My Black Ass White Boy. He intends to create two more series concepts for the launch of Acid Rain.
"I'm going to bring my professional experience to this. I'm going to make it rough, make it raw, but give it a little bit of polish," promised Spinelli.
