Queenie Sateen Crowned Queen of Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Performer, musician and club culture personality Queenie Sateen was profiled in The New York Post after it was announced that the adult star has been crowned Mermaid Queen of the 43rd annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade, which takes place on Saturday, June 21.

According to the Post, the Bedford-Stuyvesant resident is the first adult actress to lead the parade, which sees costumed revelers stroll Coney Island’s legendary boardwalk and is considered the local unofficial start to summer. Other Mermaid Queens have included Queen Latifah, socialite Carol Razdiwill, and the children of former New York mayor Bill de Blasio.

“I’m honored to be the first. Obviously, it’s so important to have representation of sex workers. I know that porn stars are the most public of that, but I’m proud to be able to represent the pornstar/sex worker girly community in such an iconic and storied New York institution,” Sateen told the Post in an extensive interview, which referred to her as simply “Queenie.”

“But I also think it’s really cool that I’m the first at this time now where a lot of our rights are coming under attack. Especially towards the adult community, it’s become such a target of like freedom of expression and speech. So many states now are cracking down on porn,” Sateen continued.

The Post also named Sateen as an AVN Award winner for “Best Orgy”—more precisely, she received a 2025 AVN Award for Best Foursome/Orgy in Brazzers’ “20 for 20,” and also shared in this year’s Best Music award for the original songs in Dorcel’s feature Alive.

The profile pointed out that, prior to starting her adult career in 2022, Sateen was a well-known figure in New York’s club kid scene. As Queenie, the artist will debut the single “Downfalling” on YouTube on June 27.

“It’s a drum and bass track with lots of fun harmonies and stuff about being a porn star. It’s about getting weird DMs and wanting to push men down stairs,” she told the Post.

Coney Island USA Artistic Director Adam Rinn told the Post that Sateen has long been well-known in NYC’s underground scene and her selection as Mermaid Queen affirmed the event’s inclusivity.

“At the end of the day, being sex worker positive—we as an organization, we have no problem with that. We have absolutely no regrets. We’re very excited about it,” Rinn said.

Eugene Hütz, frontman of the Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello, has been named the parade’s King Neptune and will appear alongside Sateen.
