Pulpo Inc. will issue its first release, Black Worm, on Friday. The new production company, run by co-owners Mako and Andrés, is looking to make a splash with a title that features vicious cops, treacherous gangsters and plenty of hardcore sex.
In Black Worm, Capo, a gangster from Northern Mexico, plots against one of his associates with the help of his girlfriend Carla. His plan, however, takes some wrong turns, and it's up to Carla to come to his aid.
"We're very influenced by mainstream movies," Mako told AVN.com. "We've been talking about making a feature movie with hardcore sex for a very long time, and this came out exactly like what we've been talking about."
Andrés said the company gleans some inspiration from mainstream filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino and Alejandro González Iñárritu, as well as popular Chinese cinema such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
When asked if it was difficult to meld sex with story line, Andrés replied, "for us, not really. We just wanted to create a justification for all the sex in the movie and I think we did that."
Pulpo, which means "octopus" in Spanish, was named so by the co-owners — both from Columbia — because it has a "tentacle" in everything, from the production to the music to the art, of each release.
"With the industry as it is right now, we're not really sure about the expectations, but we're hoping for the best. I think our main goal was to make as good a product as possible," Mako added.
Black Worm stars Lorena Sanchez, Alektra Blue, Mikayla, Tony De Sergio, Van Damage, Justice Young.
