VAN NUYS, Calif.—Japanese-American performer Asa Akira and British/Thai actor Keni Styles star in Pure, the new feature from director David Aaron Clark released this week by Prime Evil, a division of Evil Angel Productions.
Pure tells the tale of Sada Abe, a girl with a troubled past who takes a job answering phones at a Los Angeles fetish dungeon staffed exclusively by Asian beauties. Abe falls into an affair with Kichi, the husband and business partner of the head-mistress. Shutting out all others, the pair embarks on an insular existence of constant sexual experimentation and S/M ritual... a tenuous fantasy world shattered by real-life consequences.
It is the four-time AVN award-winner Clark’s first project for Evil Angel. The dark romance is based on the real-life Japanese sex scandal that inspired the controversial 1976 film In The Realm of the Senses.
The lead actors are supported by fetish-driven hardcore turns by Jessica Bangkok and Lana Violet as voracious dominatrixes taking advantage of Mr. Marcus, Valentino and Chinese slave-girl Destiny. Notoriously kinky Evil Angel director Jake Malone also makes a rare on-camera appearance.
Clark shared his thoughts about the project. "I was surprised and pleased when John [Stagliano] asked me to do a project for Evil Angel," he said. "Thanks to his policy of putting the creative options in the director’s hands, I was able to work with an extended shooting schedule manned by a small but extremely dedicated, tuned-in crew, as opposed to the way porn features are usually shot.
"This allowed space for Asa and Keni to get increasingly comfortable and familiar with each other – we shot in roughly chronological order, so the progress of their increasingly kinky and intense on-screen affair has a very real feel. I think it's great to actually have an Asian male lead in an 'Asian-themed' title, much less a dynamic, smart, sexy fellow like Keni. Also, Asa gave one of the best female lead performances I've ever seen in adult."
Clark has previously directed for Evil Angel General Manager Christian Mann, who remarked, "This is our first Prime Evil release since I've been here, so I'm very pleased. We have more than the hard gonzo so many people equate with Evil Angel. Our movies are as diverse as the personalities of the directors on our roster."
Mann continued, "In the case of David Aaron Clark, my prior experience with his movies was a good one. His work yielded many award winning Asian features, a category that David made uniquely his own. I can attest that his style is unlike anything else out there. I'm hopeful that his prior success coupled with the power of the Evil Angel brand will make PURE a commercial and critical hit."
Pure will be available from distributors and online on Sept. 30. The trailer is available at evilangel.com and at the movie's site page evildistributor.com/pure. The deluxe Prime Evil DVD, with O-card packaging, is a two-disc set that includes behind-the-scenes footage, photo galleries and interviews with the director and cast.
