A shot of porn star Katie Morgan getting banged furiously by Steve Hatcher on the set of Wicked Pictures’ Space Nuts opened HBO’s new miniseries on the porn industry, A Real Sex Xtra: Pornucopia: Going Down in the Valley, Friday night, beginning a six-week run of half-hour episodes.
Airing at 11 p.m. Eastern/Pacific, the first episode of Pornucopia focused primarily on two major porn starlets, Morgan and Jill Kelly Productions contract girl Jenna Haze.
The first half of the episode, roughly, followed Morgan as she auditioned for, won and performed in a minor role in Space Nuts. Morgan was shown going up for the part alongside such well-known performers as Taylor Rain, Vandalia and Kelly Steele, all of them auditioning together in front of Nuts director Jonathan Morgan.
After getting the part, Morgan was shown at her apartment getting ready to go to the set, with her cadre of beloved puppy dogs in tow.
After documenting some of the problems on the set of Nuts —it was cold, dark and some male performers were experiencing problems staying erect — the show moved on to Haze, who was shown winning her Best New Starlet trophy at the 2003 AVN Awards, then bouncing around the set of a girl/girl shoot with fellow JKP contract girl Cindy Crawford.
In interviews with Haze, the bubbly performer explained why she only works with girls now (she fell in love with a cameraman and sees it as immoral to sleep with other men), and detailed some of the fan mail she gets from such disparate types as Harvard students and death row inmates.
AVN president Paul Fishbein expounded on the impact the porn business has on the local economy in the San Fernando Valley, as well as what it means to win an AVN Award, which, he said, can serve as a financial boost or simply as a matter of pride.
The remaining five episodes of Pornucopia will air each Friday night for the next five weeks on HBO at 11 p.m. Eastern and Pacific/10 p.m. Central.
