A former police officer who ran an amateur porn Web site that also featured graphic photos of war dead, was sentenced to five years probation Friday.
Chris Wilson, 28, received the sentence after he pleaded no contest to five misdemeanor charges of possession of obscene materials in January. Prosecutors dropped 296 similar charges in the case, according to the Lakeland, Fla. Ledger.
Wilson was arrested in October after authorities learned that his Web site gave soldiers free access to porn in exchange for pictures of charred and dismembered bodies of insurgents from battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan. Authorities said he was arrested for the sexual images and not for the grisly war pictures.
Military officials have said they would not pursue charges against the man.
Wilson has agreed stay out of the adult Web business as a condition for his probation.
Charlie Gates, a detective with the Polk County Sheriff’s office who led the investigation, said his department had repeatedly received complaints about Wilson’s Web sites dating back to 2003.
Gates reportedly signed up as a member with Wilson’s Web site and collected 80 photographs and 20 videos showing porn which he then turned over to a judge who deemed them obscene.
