Playboy To Develop Interactive Television

Playboy Enterprises has announced a multi-year agreement with interactive television developer OpenTV, who will develop digital interactive software applications for Playboy’s television networks.

Plans call for the software to run on all platforms and not be limited to specific set-top box middleware of propriety iTV solution.

“This commitment reinforces the compelling value proposition that we offer in the applications space, and we look forward to building unique, reliable and stable technologies and applications that increase viewership and revenue for both Playboy and their network operator distributors around the world,” said Tim Evard, OpenTV senior vice president.

San Francisco-based OpenTV, which is owned by Liberty Media, is currently deployed in 47 million digital set-top boxes in 96 countries, which will further leverage the Playboy brand

“We believe that iTV applications will be a powerful tool for our partners and will also provide a more compelling viewing and transactional experience for our consumers. OpenTV is a leader in this space and we are delighted to leverage their expertise and creativity to help us achieve these goals,” said James Griffiths, Playboy Entertainment Group president.

Playboy is also collaborating with OpenTV’s U.K.-based interactive gaming channel PlayJam to create iTV games such as video strip poker, that feature celebrity centerfolds.
