Playboy Releases Trilogy of Classic Photo Books

Playboy has tapped its classic archives to compile a trilogy of pocket-sized volumes to celebrate gorgeous blondes, brunettes and redheads.

Each book has 80 pictures and includes a centerfold. The gift books feature vintage photos - each book represents the 50s, 60s & 70s - that Playboy says are "sexy enough to raise eyebrows, but sweet enough for a Father’s Day gift."

All of the beauties photographed put their distinctive assets to use in playful and alluring ways —from the fun-loving all-American girl next-door types to sensual international beauties like Ursula Andress and China Lee.

Each volume features an introduction by Playboy Advisor columnist Jim Petersen and witticisms about the charms of blondes, brunettes, or redheads.

In the 50s, Playboy photos showcased a coy, demure woman, always in good taste but very stylized (in the pin-up/calendar tradition), with her charms discreetly covered. In the 60s, the photo style began to appear more natural — the poses, the hairstyles, the lighting, the environment. In the late 60s, a much more natural look began to emerge, which continued to evolve throughout the 70s, when the photos became softer and increasingly intimate. The backgrounds dissolved into a mood, not a photo set, while the lighting became soft, seductive and romantic.

Much has been spoken, written, and thought about women for time immemorial. And interestingly, a woman’s hair color is often one of the first things noticed about her - and the last remembered.

The books are available as single volumes.
